Ask A Professor: Archaeology is an illustration created for the Ask a Professor series in the La Sierra University Magazine, an alumni magazine.
This illustration is based on an interview between a student and a professor about archaeology. I was inspired to illustrate a scene of an archaeological site from a birds-eye view. Archaeologists often use drones to plot out dig sites so I thought this would be a cool tie-in. I also thought it'd be interesting to integrate a word from the title to into the scene.
Once I was happy with my sketches, I took them into illustrator and started laying it out. I had a lot of fun with this one but I got a little carried away with some of the details (Check out the end-grain of the ladder).
I just sent this illustration to the magazine layout designer but as soon as we print this issue of the magazine I'll update this project with pictures of the printed piece so check back in September.
